Interesting Recommendation
It's not everyday I see a blog post about something I work on. I opened up Bloglines this morning to see John Scalzi's latest post about a sex toy recommended because of his book. I always have a hard time deciding what's appropriate to post about work, so I generally avoid doing it at all, but I did leave a comment on his blog:
As the guy who actually programmed that window in the screenshot, I can say that I'm not totally surprised that there was a (weak) relationship between those two items (the butt plug and Old Man's War). Both are linked from your blog and some customer behavior as a result of that built up a relationship between the two. I probably shouldn't say much more about our algorithms, so I'll leave it at that. We're constantly working on improving our algorithms, and since the Health & Personal Care was a recent addition to our recommendations area, amusing (or disturbing, depending on your point of view) things like this will probably show up from time to time, at least in the short term.
I'm a regular reader of Whatever, and I was a bit surprised to check my Bloglines list this morning and see something about my job. :) I can assure you that that recommendation was not a result of someone at Amazon's wicked sense of humor.
